Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer
Story
(1995, 100 min, United States, Jeff Blackner)
This is the true story about Colonel Margarethe Cammermeyer and her battle with the Army after she came out as a lesbian. Glenn Close plays Cammermeyer and Judy Davis plays her lover Diane. The movie had one of those lesbian kisses that became a controversy while NBC first showed it. Surprisingly, Cammermeyer was eventually reinstated in 1994 after being discharged despite the armed forces stand on gays and lesbians in the U.S. military. Cammermeyer is now in politics and running her campaign in Washington State.
